Store4U offers a comprehensive on or off-site storage solution for Limerick, under the terms of the Enhanced Defective Concrete Blocks Grant Scheme, addressing issues arising from the use of mica and pyrite minerals in building blocks.

Mica and pyrite, commonly found in quarries in Ireland, can lead to defects in construction, causing cracks and other problems in buildings.

The Enhanced Defective Concrete Blocks Grant Scheme, initiated on June 22, 2023, supersedes the original scheme and provides financial assistance for remediation work in Clare, Donegal, Limerick, and Mayo. The scheme covers up to €420,000 and includes various remediation options based on the extent of damage, ranging from full demolition to rebuilding outer walls.

Qualification criteria for the scheme include property damage due to excessive mica or pyrite, residence in specific counties, main residence status or registered rented property, construction before January 31st 2020, and compliance with regulations.

The grant covers professional fees, building assessments, approved remediation works, alternative accommodation, removal and storage costs*, essential repairs, utility reconnections, and VAT. Notably, the enhanced scheme offers a 40-year guarantee for future rebuilds, a revised application process with no financial barriers, and an independent appeals process.

Applying for the scheme involves obtaining a building condition assessment report, costing €500 to €750, and applying to the local authority. The Housing Agency assesses applications, determines remediation options, and communicates the grant amount. Those who previously applied under the original scheme will transition to the enhanced scheme.

The Department of Housing's web page highlights the Defective Concrete Products Levy, a 5% levy on concrete products to fund the grant scheme, and the Pyrite Remediation Scheme, managed by the Pyrite Resolution Board, covering 100% of repair costs for properties significantly damaged by pyrite. Additional information can be found through the link below, the Department's website and through local authorities.

*Removal & Storage costs for your property must be approved by the board as part of your grant amount
